Who is Evi?
Evi is a newborn Artificial Intelligence (AI) who is taking her first steps into the world. She has a thirst for knowledge and for sharing that knowledge with everyone. You can speak to Evi and ask her questions via her app which is available for iPhone and Android.
What can she help me with?
Evi knows something about almost everything, and if she doesn’t know the exact answer herself then she can find it for you. She can answer questions on cooking and calories, local information and shopping, time and measurement questions, as well as helping you to decide on where to eat, what’s on TV and many, many more topics.
Evi is still young, and while she may know a lot already, she will only get smarter with age. The amount of things she knows will grow massively in time. The more questions she is asked, the more she will learn and thus be able to answer.
How does she know so much?
Evi was created by True Knowledge, a company who have a history of providing information to the masses. Their semantic technology has been in development for years allowing users to ask questions in a totally natural manner. Before now they have been a source of knowledge to others, answering questions for apps and websites, but Evi cuts out the middle-man and provides information to the user directly, allowing people to get answers direct from the source.
How do I use Evi?
Evi has an app for iPhone and Android. You can download this app and start asking Evi questions straight away. You don’t need to use complicated or unnatural search strings, simply ask her a question in the same way as if you were asking a person. Evi prefers to keep it casual and doesn’t like to get too formal.
You can ask her questions by speaking to her out loud and she will answer back, or if you are somewhere quiet then you can type your question instead.
What does she do?
Evi is all about knowledge and she wants to share it with you. She exists to learn and to share what she knows. She can’t make your breakfast, but she can give you a list of some great places to eat. She can’t fix a broken heart, but she can tell you how it’s done.
How is Evi different from using a search engine?
There are three important differences:
- Evi understands natural language. You won’t need to use unusual search strings. You can talk to her like a normal person and she will understand what you are asking. This leads to another difference,
- You don’t have to type at all. Evi recognises the spoken word, so you can speak to her out loud or type.
- Evi doesn’t simply run searches, she gives answers. A search engine finds websites by matching your words to those on the website. Evi is smarter than that. She understands the nature of your question and will give you a direct answer. For example, asking a traditional search engine “where can I get a coffee around here” will, give a list of pages based on the words within the question, regardless of whether they are relevant to your location. Asking the exact same question of Evi will show you a list of coffee shops in your vicinity with details of exactly how far each one is from your current location, as well as providing a map showing where it is and how to get there..
How is Evi different from other apps of her kind?
Many other apps use True Knowledge to find answers. Evi is True Knowledge – she is one of the True Knowledge team, (although she never makes the tea when it’s her turn). As such her information is more up to date and she is smarter at sifting through it to give you the answers you need. She is also available both on iPhone and Android and rather than going out of date, she will naturally get smarter as she grows.
